On Thursday, April 2, 2020, Teresa Majors and Gregory Urban conducted a webinar presentation on relief to the nonprofit community in light of the COVID-19 health crisis. This event was presented by the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo.
During this unprecedented crisis in our community, leaders of nonprofit organizations may be facing new and changing circumstances daily. The new CARES Act signed into law last week may provide benefits to your organization.
CARES Act Background: One significant issue a number of tax-exempt organizations face in light of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID -19) pandemic is their ability to maintain and pay their work force. Shelter in place guidance and the closing of many organization’s business locations has resulted in the displacement of many workers. Switching to remote working environments while one option, may not be practical or available for many organizations. The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act passed recently provides a bit of good news in this regard. The CARES Act provides for something known as the “Paycheck Protection Program”. The program provides incentive to keep an organization’s employees on the payroll through this difficult economic time.
This was a one-hour session to learn more about this program and other aspects of the CARES Act:
