50 years in at one firm, he’s all about the numbers

As a CPA, Tom Emmerling lives by numbers. But he’s also a fan of ABCs as the newly named president of the Buffalo Niagara Partnership.

That’s ABC for Advocacy, Business Support and Convenient, a mantra of the partnership where he’s been treasurer for the last 20 years. The managing partner of Dopkins & Co. LLP believes in the business group’s ability to provide networking and training opportunities.

An accounting graduate of Canisius University, Emmerling has never left the company where he began as an intern 50 years ago with just 15 people in the office. He’s been managing partner for the last 35 years.

As the backbone of the Amherst company, Emmerling was thrilled to have Dopkins recently named as one of 75 “Best of the Best” CPA companies by Inside Public Accounting. There were three chosen in the state and two are in Manhattan, he said.
